Avril Lavigne's 'Wish You Were Here' More Indicative of Current Sound

In a departure from her earlier releases, Avril Lavigne goes for a ballad with "Wish You Were Here" as her third single. Her first two singles "What The Hell" and "Smile" were more in line with her previous albums, but received criticisms that she had not grown as an artist. "Wish You Were Here" is a better song for revealing the feel of the album than her other Goodbye Lullaby singles. It's simple use of acoustic guitars is a new approach for Lavigne, who has a pop rock past."I love this song. I like this song because I wrote it about missing somebody and that's something that we all go through at some point in our lives," she explained. "It's just about looking back and remembering all those good times you shared with somebody, all the crazy moments. And that's life. We all experience that at some point, but it has a positive message." Dave Myers directed a stripped down, honest video for Avril Lavigne to go with her new approach. Hopefully this will help show that she has grown from her past and learned from her divorce.
